MODULE
3: APPLICATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF
THE MEDRUSH MODEL
Module Leader:
Prof. J. B. Thornes (King's College, London)
Topic
3.1 Application of MEDRUSH to the Guadalentín (Thornes,
King's College London)
- The objectives were as follows. To
undertake a complete sensitivity analysis and validation
of the MEDRUSH hillslope component. Computer simulations
of the impact of land use and climate changes using the
MEDRUSH model hillslope component in desertification
sensitive areas in the Guadalentín-Segura and the Agri
were made. To undertake, jointly, with Leeds and
Newcastle, the validation and application of the complete
MEDRUSH model in the two areas, using the CCC and Hadley
Centre models for scenarios of climate change and an
extended abandonment set-aside model for land use. The
results were compared with the Thornes-Obando spatial
abandonment model and the implications for groundwater
recharge were examined.
Topic
3.2 Application of MEDRUSH model to Agri (Santini,
Università di Napoli)
- The objectives were: to undertake a
scaling and spatial variability analyses of water
transport processes in the Agri basin; to model
sensitivity analysis and relevant parameter definition;
model validation and testing; comparison of model results
from other target areas; evaluation of model performance
and output reliability.
Topic
3.3 Application of the MEDRUSH model to the Gerje catchment (Kertesz,
Hungarian Academy of Sciences)
- The objectives were: calibration and
validation of the MEDRUSH model in the Gerje catchment
based on field information and on meteorological and
hydrological data; to run the model in the Gerje
catchment co-operating with the English groups
London/Leeds; scenario studies and comparisons with other
areas.
