Topic 2.1 Ecological Modelling (Woodward, University of Sheffield)

• The work: validated current shrub and grass models; developed a tree model; developed a model which allows competition between life forms; developed a generic fire model; incorporated a published grazing model in the vegetation model.

Topic 2.2 Land degradation models (Kirkby, University of Leeds)

• The research consisted of: continuing validation of the MEDRUSH model for the Agri and other target areas; further development of the MEDRUSH model including the grazing component; integration of socio-economic models with MEDRUSH; development of sub-MEDRUSH model for areas of 100 km2.

Topic 2.3 Large Basin Modelling and landslide erosion modelling (Bathurst, University of Newcastle)

• The research consisted of: collaborative implementation of MEDRUSH in Agri and Guadalentin basins; the identification and use of a database to validate the SHETRAN landslide component.
